Ethereal Space has been awarded Task Order 1 under NOAA's ProTech 2.0 Space-Based Environmental Monitoring (SBEM) program, the Denver-based company announced. The 24-month task order carries a total contract value of approximately $27.4 million, with initial data deliveries scheduled to begin December 1, 2026.
Under the SBEM program, Ethereal Space will supply commercial space-based environmental observations supporting NOAA's operational mission. The company's capabilities include GNSS radio occultation for atmospheric and ionospheric observations, thermospheric neutral-density measurements, and multispectral visible and infrared imagery.
"This award represents an important transition for Ethereal Space from building and demonstrating new observing capabilities to delivering operational environmental data at scale," said Shawn Cochran, CEO and Co-Founder of Ethereal Space. "We are proud to support NOAA's mission and to contribute commercial observations that improve our understanding of the atmosphere, ionosphere, and space environment."
Ethereal Space develops and operates commercial satellite systems, environmental sensors and data products focused on Earth and space weather observation, and is deploying a growing constellation of small satellites and specialized sensors.
