Dubai Municipality has joined the Digital Twin Consortium, expanding its participation in an international network working to advance digital twin technologies, interoperability, applications and best practices, Economy Middle East reported. The consortium's official member directory now lists Dubai Municipality among participating organizations from industry, government, research and academia.
The membership lets Dubai Municipality take part in the consortium's specialized working groups, which cover areas including architecture, engineering and construction, digital engineering, mobility and transportation, manufacturing, telecommunications and security, as well as interoperability, data modeling, simulation, analytics and privacy. Dubai Municipality, represented by its GIS Centre Department, has already taken part in the consortium's third-quarter members meeting hosted by the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom, where participants from 10 countries presented digital twin technologies, applications and experiences.
The move builds on the Dubai Digital Twin Platform, officially launched July 2, which serves as a virtual representation of the emirate and has already produced 3D models of more than 195,000 buildings. Eng. Maryam Al Muhairi, CEO of the Building Regulation and Permits Agency at Dubai Municipality, said the membership builds on the work of the municipality's GIS Centre to develop an integrated ecosystem combining geospatial information with advanced technologies such as AI and predictive analytics.
Eng. Maitha Al Nuaimi, Director of the GIS Centre Department, said Dubai's focus would be on converting international expertise gained through the consortium into practical applications, including stronger use of geospatial information in infrastructure development and more informed government decision-making.
